? Full Description
This eco‑adventure begins with a punctual meeting point at the visitor centre near El Cajuil, on the northwestern shore of Laguna de Oviedo. From there you’ll board a small motorised boat, guided by trained local captains and nature guides affiliated with the Association of Guides of Laguna de Oviedo (AGUINAOVI).
As you navigate the elongated 28 km² salt‑water lagoon, you’ll pass lush mangroves (including red, black and white species), dunes and palm groves. The guides will point out iconic wildlife: the American flamingo visiting annually, over 150 different bird species recorded in the area, and even the endemic Oviedo pupfish.
The tour will stop at small islets where iguanas bask and birds nest, and may include a chance to step ashore for a short nature walk or mud bath on the lagoon’s edge. The contrast between the shallow, sparkling waters of the lagoon and the nearby Caribbean Sea straits makes for beautiful photo opportunities.
Throughout the outing you’ll benefit from the knowledge of local guides trained in nature‑tourism. Their insight into flora, fauna and local ecosystems helps elevate the experience beyond a simple boat ride. The tour is suitable for nature‑lovers, birdwatchers, families and travellers seeking an off‑the‑beaten‑path adventure.

❤️ Why Travelers Love It
Travelers appreciate how this tour goes beyond typical beach excursions and introduces them to a rare, hypersaline lagoon ecosystem in a protected natural area. The combination of bird‐watching (especially flamingos), mangrove forests, iguanas, and the natural mud bath adds variety and uniqueness. The fact that the tour is guided by local community members adds authenticity and supports eco‑tourism.
