Full Description ?
Your adventure begins in Sabana de la Mar at approximately 09:00 AM. After meeting your guide, you board a comfortable boat and begin the journey up the Caño Hondo River. As the river winds through thick red-mangrove forests, you’ll feel surrounded by nature, with birds flying overhead and the tranquil water guiding you.
You enter the expansive San Lorenzo Bay, where rocky mogotes rise dramatically from the water, each covered in dense green vegetation and home to myriad plant species and birds. Your guide points out various flora and fauna and explains the unique geology of the region.
Next, you disembark and explore the Arena Cave and the La Línea Cave. Within these limestone caverns you encounter petroglyphs and pictographs left by the Taíno indigenous people. These ancient rock-art portray animals, deities and human figures in shades of black and grey, offering a window into pre-Columbian history.
After the cave visit, the boat ride continues, giving you chance to spot marine life such as manatees, dolphins and other creatures in the bay’s waters.
