Full Description
Join this unique and unforgettable experience in the tropical hills near Puerto Plata. After your hotel pickup, you’ll begin with a scenic ride from the ocean into the mountains, taking in stunning panoramic views of the coast and the valley. You’ll arrive at Taino Valley Tropical Park, where you explore lush gardens of tropical trees, plants, bamboo, fruit trees and seasoning plants growing in the Dominican mountains. In the park you’ll also see statues of the Taíno gods and learn the significance of each. From there a natural water well feeds ponds of fish; you may visit a viewpoint for some great photo-ops and meet animals in the petting area (birds, goats, guinea pigs, donkeys, ducks). tainovalley.com+1
Next, you’ll rest under a traditional leaf-covered roof, enjoying a fruit-tasting session of fresh tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, bananas, papaya, melon, avocado, and more — straight from mother-nature. Then you attend basic demonstrations about coffee and cigar making: you’ll see coffee trees, the processing, the brewing, and taste freshly brewed coffee; you’ll see how cigars are cultivated and rolled, and optionally taste a fine Dominican cigar.
Lunch follows at Casa Antigua, a Dominican house more than 100 years old, where the team cooks on a “fogon” (wood-fire) using organic ingredients from the area and local farmers. Typical Dominican dishes such as rice, beans, chicken, salad and more await you, while a garden behind the house grows banana, avocado, pineapple, tomato and more. GetYourGuide+1
In the afternoon you continue to Sonador creek for a relaxing break: paddle or swim in the crystal-clear water with small waterfalls (depending on conditions), surrounded by a beautiful and pure environment in the hills. Then you’ll be driven back to the coast/hotel.
