After a scenic 40-minute drive, you’ll arrive in El Cobre, a municipality of immense strategic and colonial importance. Our first stop is the Cimarrón Monument, sculpted in iron and bronze by Alberto Lescay. This site honors the "cimarrones"—enslaved people who escaped to freedom—and offers a vantage point with incredible views of the surrounding natural beauty.

Next, we visit the El Cobre Sanctuary, home to Cuba’s patron saint, the Virgin of Charity. You’ll ascend the 254 steps to enter this magnificent basilica, a place of pilgrimage visited by thousands, including Pope Francis in 2015. We will explore the sanctuary’s interior and learn about its spiritual significance to the Cuban people. Before heading back, we’ll take a short stroll through the town’s streets to witness daily life in this historic village before returning to Santiago de Cuba.
